As we approach the 75thAnniversary of D-Day, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Army Navy Air Force Veterans clubs are seeking any and all D-Day veterans, who may be in the Kamloops region, to join us in a celebration of the 75th Anniversary of D-Day at a ceremony to be held at the Battle Street Cenotaph at 11:00 AM on June 6.
If you know of a D-Day vet in the Kamloops area, we would like to know about them, to give them a special invitation to attend the event. Families of D-Day veterans are encouraged to attend to mark this milestone anniversary as well.
The Legion and the ANAFVETS will offer transportation for veterans to and from the event if needed.
To advise us of any D-Day veterans, or for more information, please contact Craig Thomson at the Legion at 250 374 1742, with names and contact information, and we will make further contact.
The upcoming ceremony to be held at the Battle Street Cenotaph is open to the public.
Following the ceremony, veterans and their families, and the public are welcome to attend a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion on Lansdowne Street.
Thank you for your support.
HOW D-DAY CHANGED THE WORLD
Life as we know it began on June 6, 1944
Canada’s historic battle in Normandy
On June 6, 1944, Canadian, British, and American forces made history as 156,000 soldiers landed on five beaches along 80 kilometres of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy Region. This was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history, and marks the beginning of the end of the Second World War.
